Art Studio Time - 68 Abell Condo Resident

Classes

Practice your hand and machine sewing skills, and zero waste design, in this self-paced sewing class.

Work on starting or completing a specific sewing project that you have in mind.

We can provide reclaimed or never used materials for your project, or bring your own. All supplies and tools will be provided for each student.

This class is not suitable for a complete beginner, previous experience with hand and machine sewing required. (Please sign up for one of our 'complete beginner' classes to get started with basic skills.)

CANCELLATION POLICY : Class fees are non-refundable. Any cancellations or changes to your registration must be done at least 72 hours prior to the class start date in order to be issued a credit. Cancellations that are made less than 72 hours before the class start date and students who do not show up to class will forfeit their class fee.

Beginner Sewing - Class 2: Sewing seams

2 hrs 30 mins··$30

This workshop equips beginner sewers with the skills to sew a variety of commonly used seams! You will learn how to sew seams (including a normal seam, french seam and flat felled seam), how to finish seams and how to sew hems. You will also gain an understanding of seam allowance and ironing techniques.

This workshop is for beginners, but a basic understanding of how to operate a domestic sewing machine is required.

All machines, supplies and materials are provided. Participants are also welcome to bring a sewing machine from home.

Beginner Sewing - Class 3: Understanding fabrics and patterns

2 hrs 30 mins··$30

This workshop is geared towards beginner sewers who are ready to take on their first projects! Participants will gain an understanding of choosing fabrics, reading a sewing pattern, arranging and cutting out the pattern pieces. We’ll cover fabric types (knit and wovens), fibres (cotton, linen, polyester etc), fabric weight and more.

No prior experience required.

All supplies and materials are provided. We will not be using a sewing machine in this session.

Creative Reuse Toronto is a not for profit community arts and environment organization.

Our multidisciplinary team of volunteers supports creative education and environmental programs while operating our creative reuse centre.

We focus on community building through our programs, using and redistributing items and resources that were destined for landfill. We also connect and partner with other repair, reuse, environmental, and community arts organizations in Toronto and across Canada.
